NTU EMBA Presidential Cup Basketball Tournament
Last weekend was such a proud weekend for our GMBA program!
It was a frigid winter weekend at NTU Medical Sports Stadium, and the event, “NTU EMBA Presidential Cup Basketball Tournament” was held. The event was two days, 17-18 Dec 2022. Our GMBA basketball team was invited to participate in this event. So our team which comprised a varied collection of excellent athletes was adamant about bringing home the trophy and claiming victory for the program.
The event started at 9:00 am. The players from different teams can be found warming up for the competition. There are ten teams in total and two groups of five teams have to play against in the first day to enter Semifinal.
Our first competition started at 10:40 against Lánshè Team. The excitement was apparent as the players headed to the pitch. The crowd, which was packed with delighted friends and family members, cheered on the squad as they faced their opponents. The team made a nice lead since the first quarter and won the game with a 25:21 score. Then the opening ceremony started with a charming cheerleading dance. Later, the honorable guests, Guo Rui Xiang, the Director of the College of Management, the alumni Su Zhe Sheng, the Student Council President, Lai, and CEO Liu, made the speech.
Not long after that, the second game competing against with Team 105 started at 2 pm. That was also an intense game but we were able to lead each quarter with a very close mark gap. However, we again won the game at 30:16. Our third competition began at 3:40 pm. Here, our players did a very nice job by making scores each quarter and won with 30:23 scores to Team 108. The last game of the day was at 5:20 pm which was against Team Tái dàn yǒngshì. Our athletes ended the first day with four consecutive winnings straight with 41:17 again and made it into the semifinal.
The second day began at 9:00 am on Sunday. Our Semifinal game was fast-paced and fierce, with both sides fighting hard. The players worked intensely to get a high mark. But we advanced to finals, beating Team 111 Rators by 41:17. After that, we had a fun three-point shooting game.
The final game was at 3:30. The score was neck and neck as the time ran out. With barely minutes remaining in the game, the team had the ball and was attempting to seal the victory. Unfortunately, we lost to the EMBA 76ers 27 to 30 in the finals end up 2nd place in the tournament.
In the following awarding ceremony, all players received their respective individual medals and a team trophy for the first runner-up. Also, one of our players, Rob, received the “Rebound King” prize with 55 rebounds. After that, all the teams took group pictures together. Thanks to every participant with a sporting spirit, the event ended professionally and successfully. We once thanked NTU EMBA again for inviting us to participate in the event. Also, thanks to GMBA Alumni Association, led by president Edward Wang for partially sponsoring this event. We appreciate the GMBA office for the assistantship, the cheering team, and Professor Audrey for the support. The team felt they had done something remarkable as they reflected on their winter sports season, and they left the competition with a sense of pride and success that they would take with them for years to come.
If we have the opportunity, we would like to participate again in the tournament next year.
